Parents of band students going on BIG TRIP 2014:

The AW Marching band students will have their next Big Trip (once every 4 years) in most likely late Fall of 2014 (about 18 months from now).

Because of this expensive event, the Band Boosters are looking at having a large fundraising event to help fund a portion of the students’ trip cost. But we cannot do this alone and are looking for some volunteers to help with this fundraising event.

Again, this is to help reduce YOUR cost for the trip in 2014.

If you would like to help out your child’s booster and band organization by assisting with this event or for more information, please contact me.

Now that the holidays are over and the AW showing @ solo & ensemble was so awesome (GREAT JOB!!!) it’s time to look forward to spring, chicken BBQ and ELECTIONS!!!! That’s right; it’s time to choose our booster leadership for the next year.

If you are interested in running for Vice President or Secretary, please let me know, or any of the booster officers. If you would like to know more about the jobs, please contact any one of us who’ve been there & done that. Really, the jobs are not difficult and the rewards are great. See you at the next booster meeting on February 4 @ 7:00 in the band room.

The AW Band Boosters need your help filling a chairperson position, actually 2 people to fill this position as many hands make for light work!

We are in need of  AW Band Boosterwear chairs to help coordinate the purchase and then sale of the boosterwear that is sold throughout the year but especially at football games.

If you would be interested in sharing this job with another parent or would like more information about this position, please contact me, Scott Donnelly, AWBB Vice President.

Thank you for your consideration!

It’s time once again to get ready for the Anthony Wayne Marching Generals Showcase of Bands. Show date is September 29, 2012.

To put this show together it takes many volunteers and we need your help. Anyone donating his or her time to help with the show will get into the show for free.

We need help in the following areas:

  • Concessions- We need several people to work a shift at the concession stand during the show.
  • Greeters- We need one or two people to play host/hostess to each visiting band. Your day is spent directing them to the different areas during the show. This job is very easy to do.
  • Tickets- We need people to sell tickets in the ticket booth before the show.
  • 50/50 Tickets- Help sell tickets for the 50/50 raffle.
  • Booster Wear- A couple people are needed to help sell items at the Booster Table.
  • Clean up- Several people are needed to help clean up after the show. The more people helping the quicker the job gets done. Usually many people show up to help with this and it doesn’t take very long.

If you are interested at all in helping out please e-mail me, Kerri Murphy, at abby00007@aol.com.

Cookies, Roasters and Coolers needed too! If you’d like to bake cookies for the show, we need 2 cookies each put in baggies to be passed out to the band students. If you’d like to donate a couple dozen cookies please e-mail me at abby00007@aol.com.

This day is a really fun day not only for the kids but for the parents as well but to make it a success it takes people who care enough about out students to get involved. If you’ve never volunteered for the show before give it a try. Aren’t our kids worth it?

We are in need of adults and students who are willing to spare a couple of hours on one of the following days to help sit at the AWBB table during upcoming registration days:

  • Tuesday, August 14th, 8 am-8pm – Junior High or
  • Wednesday, August 15th, 8 am-8pm – Middle School

If you could give just 2 hours any of those days, we need 2 adults at a time along with any students who can help.  Please contact me, Scott Donnelly.

Thanks so much for your help!

REMINDER:

Uniform try-ons are noon to 5:30, Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th in the band room.

All students must come to try-on their uniform, and bring their tote with accessories in it (including spats).

Uniform fees will be due that day, as well as those that pay instrument rental fees.  Freshman will also be fitted for concert wear.

Per Mr. Young, other than woodwinds, there won’t be a need to cut gloves this year, so many may want to purchase new ones.

LASTLY:  if anyone (students included) would like to help out during these times, please contact Kara Olligschlager.

The Anthony Wayne Marching Generals and the AWBB are in need of someone to sew our ascots…those white neck covers the students wear under their marching jackets.

There is no hurry on this, it’s just an ongoing need. The uniform ladies have the patterns, fabric and examples.

If anyone is somewhat skilled at sewing and would be able to help in this matter, please contact Kara Olligschlager.

Thank you!

UPDATE: We have enough volunteers for this! Thanks.

Thanks to all of the ecology volunteers who have updated their schedule and added on-call times. The updated sign-up sheet, as of July 3 (PDF), is available to confirm the changes.

A few notes:

  • Many teams have not selected an on-call shift yet. Please do so, since that helps us plan for the worst, but also does not make people come to the course and be bored.
  • Some teams have had to cancel, so we have more shifts available! Check the sign-up sheet for details, but our biggest needs are now for Monday, August 6, PM and Sunday, August 12.
  • Don’t forget that July 31st is our volunteer meeting (6:30pm at the Monclova Community Center), where you will get your shirts, hats, passes and additional information.
  • Be sure to check the band schedule (here at awbb.org or in Mr. Young’s document) to make sure your ecology shifts do not conflict with marching band camp. Also, the Monclova Centennial Parade on Saturday, August 11, has been added to the marching band schedule.

Thanks again for volunteering! Contact us with your on-call and added shift requests.
