As the start of school approaches, I wanted to send you and your student a big ‘GET READY!’ message about the exciting things in store for the 6th Grade band this year.
Here are some of the reminders:
1. Most of the students will not have played much over the summer. That is not unusual. Once they return to school and hear themselves with the 85 member sixth grade band, they will be energized once again. Every year it goes the same……quick start and great music form our 6th graders!!
2. Have your student put their instrument together now and make sure it is in playing condition. If not, take it to the music store right away. You should be able to get it back by Aug. 24, our first playing day. (We will not be playing the very first day of school Aug. 23.)
3. Band Handbooks will be sent home with the students the first or second day of school. Parents need to fill out the last page (after reading the handbook) and have your student return it to school.
4. The new book this year is: Essential Elements 200 – Book 2. (We will use Book 1 [last year's] for the first week). The new book is available at area music stores or on-line at: rettigmusic.com. Rettigs will delivery the book to FT if you wish.
If you have questions or concerns please contact me.
Thank you and I am really looking forward to this year with your student in the 6th grade band,
Mr. Giffin
